Spanish Learning Books

When choosing material for learning the Spanish language there are several factors to pay close attention to. While there are a variety of books and manuals available, not all are suited for a specific style of learning. We know that every individual learns at a slightly different pace and while some are more visual learners, others prefer to learn in a discussion style learning environment. There are books available that cover all the bases. An effective Spanish learning book should include the following:

Clear pictures and descriptive narratives

First, an effective Spanish learning book should have pictures and narratives that support the current lesson. Pictures should be clear, recent, and portray a current illustration of the culture. This is important because learning the Hispanic culture is an important factor in having the ability to not only understand the Spanish language, but in being able to communicate efficiently. The narratives of the pictures in Spanish learning books should communicate “real life” conversation and circumstances, giving the student specific scenarios they are likely to encounter. This will present them with useful vocabulary and conjugation.

Repetitive format

Besides clear pictures accompanied with detailed narratives, an effective Spanish learning book should have a repetitive format not only with vocabulary, but with basic conjugation as well. It is a proven fact that repetition is a very efficient way for the human mind to learn new information and grasp new concepts. For example, when the lesson is targeting a certain conjugation, there should be various parts of the chapter that should demonstrate how that conjugation should be used in a variety of conversational scenarios. This pattern will allow them to not only learn the basics, but will give them the confidence needed to be able to communicate in a variety of real life situations. In addition, using repeated references to vocabulary will help the student use a specific word in several applications. Spanish, like English, has words that when used in different ways has completely different meanings. For example, the word “fly” has two meanings: a pesky insect, and to fly in an airplane.

Comprehensive dictionary

Along with clear pictures accompanied with narratives, repetitive vocabulary and conjugation, an effective Spanish learning book should include a comprehensive dictionary with both English and Spanish definitions. The student should be able to find every word used in the lessons so they have the ability to look up and cross reference the different uses of a particular word. It is also very helpful to have a comprehensive dictionary in order for students to write reports, papers, and other written assignments. The combination of these features equals a very useful, constructive Spanish learning book which the student will be able to use for all of their Spanish learning needs.
